Exhibiting Self-Confidence And Its Fine Line With Arrogance :

There is a line between self-confidence and arrogance. Some people consider it a fine line when others consider the difference between self-confidence and arrogance to be a wide gap. Self-confidence and arrogance have some similar character traits. Are you a self-confident person or are you really just an arrogant person? This checklist will help you determine whether if you're arrogant or just self-confident.

A Self Confident Person

A person with self-confidence acknowledges that they have strength in certain areas. While the strengths are acknowledged and understood, the person also realizes that they have certain weaknesses and limitations, just like everyone else.

A self-confident person will usually take the lead in a group activity or task, but he or she is also likely to encourage more involvement and engage closely the other members of the group. A self-confident person also has no problem acknowledging that another person might be able to do a certain task much better than he or she could.

An Arrogant Person

An arrogant person acknowledges and believes that they have strength in certain areas. An arrogant person usually will not acknowledge that he or she has any weaknesses and sometimes will portray the strengths as a way of hiding their weaknesses or limitations. In group activities an arrogant person will strive to take a leadership role, but however, he or she is likely to shift blame when things go wrong and his attitude to others is one characterized by contempt.

Humility

Being humble is a major difference between a confident and an arrogant person. An arrogant person might brag and try to appear to be the best in a group where a confident person recognizes their areas of weaknesses and comes to terms with them.

An arrogant person usually has low self-esteem or doesn't accept the fact that he or she is weak in certain areas. They make up for it in their strengths, trying to cover up their weaknesses, making themselves appear cocky and superior.

Feeling Secure or Insecure

This is a big difference between self-confidence and arrogance. Arrogant people usually feel insecure and try to cover it up through antics and by making themselves appear confident and better than everyone else. Self confident people usually aren't insecure but if they do have insecure feelings, they usually know how to deal with it and do not employ negative behavior or antics to cover up or hide their insecurities.

If you think you might be an arrogant person and want to become more self- confident, come to terms with your weaknesses and realize that everyone has at least some form of weakness. Embrace your weaknesses and work towards improving yourself. After all, you are like everyone else. We're all human.
