Ways to Survive the Cold in the Countryside :

With less pollution and more open space than a built up city, the temperature will always be colder in the countryside during the winter months.

Here are some simple tips to help get you through those cold months in the countryside!

Keep Active

Many of us would rather hibernate during the winter, rather than go outside and exercise. Wear layers so as your body temperature increases you can take them off. If you really can't workout in the cold, then head to your local gym. Getting your friends involved too will help to keep you motivated.

Drive Safely

Rain, ice and snow can make driving unsafe if you aren't prepared. Make sure your car is ready for winter; if snow is expected then you may want to think about changing to winter tyres or getting specialist chains for your wheels. Keep a shovel in the boot in case you need to clear a path and have plenty of de-icer in the car too.

Be Prepared

It never hurts to be prepared for a bad winter. If you live out in the countryside you may be subject to power cuts and road closures. Have an emergency kit prepared, including a torch with new batteries, candles, food, water and blankets.

Stay Healthy

The winter season wouldn't be complete without the common cold! Try to avoid illness if you can by getting plenty of sleep, keeping your hands clean and exercising regularly. Ensure you are taking plenty of Vitamin C and have some medicine ready so you can try to kill off the cold when you notice early symptoms.

Keep Your Home Warm

Chances are if you live in the countryside, you could be heating your home with heating oil. Regardless of your heating system, be sure that you are not wasting heat. Check for cracks around windows and doors, ensure your windows are closed if you've got the heating on and you could use draft excluders too.

This way, your home will stay warm and you should also make savings on your heating bills. It is also far more economical to concentrate on heating yourself rather than the whole house, layers are the best way.

It's also a good idea to get your boiler serviced. This will ensure it runs smoothly during the winter months and you won't encounter any unnecessary boiler breakdowns that leave your home feeling bitterly cold.
