Happiness is defined as a state of well-being characterized by emotions ranging from contentment to intense joy. How can we find happiness? Where to look for it? And why there are lots of people who possess everything they need to be happy and yet they are not?
The following tips shed some light on happiness and provide some practical tips on how to find it.
1. You NEVER know how things will turn out... not when you're careful and not when you take chances. You're not in control of the universe. (You knew that, right?) You can have a plan, a safety net, and a back-up plan.
You still don't get guaranteed outcomes. And that's actually liberating, because it means you don't have to waste your energy trying to wrestle your life into submission. Instead, you get to channel that energy towards your dreams and goals.
2. Gratitude. Happiness and gratitude often go hand in hand. No one can feel happy without appreciating what he or she already has. Yet, most people tend to take things for granted. They may possess all they may need but still don't feel happy or grateful for what God has given them. When times get tough, thanking God of what we already have or what He has already given us will make us feel better about ourselves and in result happier.
3. Ask for what you want & need. It is amazing how many times I hear people tell me that they shouldn't have to ask their partner for what they want and need from them - their partner should just know. This sentiment never ceases to amaze me.
Refusing to ask to get your needs met from your partner only leaves you feeling empty, unfulfilled and often angry; with this anger doing nothing to help your relationship expect fuel resentment over time. And nothing kills intimacy like resentment.
Therefore, if you need your partner to help with the dishes, the kids, the house, etc., ASK! Fuming to yourself that your partner should just know and you shouldn't have to tell him doesn't serve you, your relationship or do anyone else any good. It is your responsibility to speak up and be heard!
So my dear, don't be lazy and make an effort, cook them a posher meal than normal, dress up nicely, and offer them a back massage. Whatever it is, go the extra mile and it will be reciprocated.
