It's getting close to that time of year again where everyone starts thinking about what they are wanting not only for Christmas but want they are wanting in the coming year. Some people will be making lists, some will be writing out their vision/dreams/desires, some will be creating vision boards, some will be setting resolutions and some will be thinking all of that is just pointless.
The part that has the most impact on your life isn't what you do or don't do. The part that has the most impact comes from your internal state of being (your thoughts and feelings). Play along with me and I will show you how this works. Open a notepad on your phone, computer - or go old school get an actually notepad (my personal favorite option).
Now write down 10 things you're wanting (these can be actually things like a car, laptop, TV, phone, or it can be a relationship, career, etc) There is no limits just be free and open. Don't read any further until you complete this experiment.
Seriously try this I promise it will surprise you. Now go back to your list and circle everything on your list that you already have in your life. Did you circle anything on your list? Probably not.
Now, I'm guessing if you're anything like me you're thinking "why would I have anything on my list that I'm wanting?". The whole point of wanting something is because we don't have it that's why we want it (This was so totally me). When I first learned this it didn't make any sense to me.
Here's why this is so important, when we want from a place of not having - it doesn't feel good to us. It may drive some of us to think that "I don't really get what I want or it's not really possible to get what I want". From this internal place of I don't have anything that I want - we see everything from a lack or a scarcity view-point.
However, if we are wanting things in our lives that we already have (along with the wanting of the things we don't) - we see everything from an abundant view-point. It gives our minds evidence that we do actually get what we want.
Here are some of my examples:
- I want an amazing house and I have one.
- I want a car that I love and I have one.
- I want to have great friends and I have them.
- I want quality & pleasurable food to eat and I have that.
- I want a business that I love and I have one.
This impacts what you get because if you are constantly in the state of wanting from feeling of lack or scarcity it stops you from seeing the endless opportunities of ways it could show up and stops you from moving towards it (because it feels pointless).
Keep this in mind and notice the place from where you are wanting. Are you wanting everything from a space of not having any of it (you're lacking in your life) or are you wanting from the space that you do already have some of what you are wanting (you're abundant in your life) which means you get what you're wanting.
Give it try for yourself. Go through your life and write out everything you are wanting and notice where you already have you what you are wanting. I promise it's fun and will amaze you because it feels fabulous to want something that you already have. And after all in the end that is what your really wanting anyways - the feeling.
