So, would you like freedom? From what do want freedom? It might be from an over - bearing wife that constantly nags at you, wearing you down, and you are tired of her tirades. Maybe it's your work situation. Your boss is constantly picking on you, making you the scapegoat when things go wrong.
Maybe you are just tired of your lifestyle. The monotony of having a job, working at set nine hours a day, five days a week, and twelve months a year. Coming home after work just isn't a pleasure anymore.
The kids nagging for attention, all you want to do is just sit in front of the telly and relax after a trying day at work. Your wife nagging to help with the chores. You don't get any pleasure out of anything, nothing satisfies you at all. You just want to get away from it all.
Well, now here is the spanner in the works. By saying that, I mean this is not going to work. Because humans, or people, were created to serve something. You choose what you are willing to serve. Whatever or wherever you spend your time that is what you serve.
You have a house, a car, a family to support, so you spend most of your time at work because you have to pay the bills. Maybe you like to have lots of money on the bank. You don't work at a regular job; you work at increasing your money.
You watch the financial news religiously to make sure you make the right decisions to make a good profit. Putting it bluntly then, you serve money because of the time you spend daily working on it to make a good profit.
Now, another explanation is the amount of time you spend on whatever you are doing, if you spend most of your time, even your free time, then that is your god. I don't know if you understand this concept, but think about it.
Because your free time is not your own, someone else, or something else owns it. And if someone or something else owns your time, even your free time, they own you. That makes you a slave. And you don't have any freedom.
I said before, humans, or you, were created to serve something. And if you serve something, then that something is your God. Does that make sense to you? Probably not, but think about this concept. The Bible says this about serving: "Let us consider the matter. Serve God, because that is the whole duty of man." I have been in the same predicament also.
I have realized that when you serve God, God sets you free. And then you will be really free. There is no other way; we were created to be that way. So, whatever you serve, serve wholeheartedly, willingly. That would make your serving a lot easier to bear than if you do it begrudgingly. And your life would be more difficult if you serve unwillingly.
The book of 1Peter also speaks about the same concept. Read the whole series of posts in my blog.
